Destiny 2: How to Get Cards for Lectern of Divination

Sep 01, 2023Sep 01, 2023

Destiny 2 introduces the Lectern of Divination in Season 22. Here's how to get new Major and Minor Arcana cards for it.

With the start of the Season of the Witch, Destiny 2 players have two new activities to sink their teeth into: Savathûn's Spire and Altars of Summoning. While the two additions play a bit differently from one another, they share a new Season 22 feature that takes a bit of inspiration from tabletop gaming. The Lectern of Divination is a new interactable in the H.E.L.M. allowing Destiny 2 players to earn cards that can be built into a custom deck offering specific buffs.

Every Season, Destiny 2 models new activities and mechanics around whatever story is currently being told. For Season 22, that story revolves around Eris Morn's ascension to Hive godhood. In that spirit, Guardians are learning Hive magic and tithing their kills to Morn, who seeks to overpower the Hive god of war, Xivu Arath. Part of this empowerment involves players mastering the tools Savathûn left behind following her defeat in The Witch Queen expansion. For Morn's plan to work, Guardians will need to master Hive rituals to bring Savathûn back from the dead and empower the new Hive god of vengeance. A vital part of this is players' mastery of the Lectern of Divination and the Deck of Whispers.

The Deck of Whispers is a new mechanic for Season of the Witch that works in tandem with the Lectern of Divination. While the Deck of Whispers describes the literal deck of effect-imbued cards Guardians can customize, the Lectern is where new cards are converted from Opaque Cards. When players earn a new card, it initially appears as an Opaque Card. Visiting the Lectern of Divination will allow Guardians to reveal the new acquisition as either a Major Arcana card or a Minor Arcana card.

Major Arcana cards make up the Deck of Whispers, with an initial five needed before players can create their first deck. Each of these cards offers a unique combat effect, like regenerating health and shields after rapid kills, and one card from the Deck of Whispers is selected at random whenever players begin an encounter in Savathûn's Spire or the Altars of Summoning. Some also add additional rewards like new daily Bounties. Minor Arcana cards aren't for the Deck of Whispers, but each provides an immediate reward at the Lectern -- like Exotic Engrams or Enhancement Prisms.

Finding new Opaque Cards for the Lectern of Divination to reveal won't be an issue for players, as they have a chance at dropping whenever Guardians open a chest in Savathûn's Spire or the Altars of Summoning activity. However, while Minor Arcana cards grant instant rewards, Major Arcana cards require a little extra work before they're fully available. These come in the form of quests tied to specific Major Arcana cards as they're revealed. These quests often require players to gather "Insight" by performing explicit actions -- like getting a certain number of melee kills in the new activities.

That said, there are still some limitations on how many Major Arcana cards are available week-to-week. When players first engage with Season 22 and complete its opening quests, they're guaranteed to receive Opaque Cards that reveal at least a couple of Major Arcana cards. As Guardians keep playing, they'll find that after revealing five Major Arcana cards, all newly revealed Opaque Cards become Minor Arcana cards. That is to say, collecting new Major Arcana cards is time-gated to coincide with the continuing seasonal narrative. As Season 22 goes on, players can find more Major Arcana cards and customize their Deck of Whispers even further. Like in the season's opening, players will likely obtain these new Major Arcana cards through weekly story missions and ongoing engagement in both new activities.

Destiny 2 is available on PC, PS4, PS5, Xbox One, and Xbox Series X/S
